#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the author of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and creator of The Mindy Project and Never Have I Ever comes a hilarious collection of essays about her ongoing journey to find contentment and excitement in her adult life. “This is Kaling at the height of her power.”—USA Today In Why Not Me?, Kaling shares insightful, deeply personal stories about falling in love at work, seeking new friendships in lonely places, attempting to be the first person in history to lose weight without any behavior modification whatsoever, and believing that you have a place in Hollywood when you’re constantly reminded that no one looks like you. In “How to Look Spectacular: A Starlet’s Confessions,” Kaling gives her tongue-in-cheek secrets for surefire on-camera beauty, (“Your natural hair color may be appropriate for your skin tone, but this isn’t the land of appropriate–this is Hollywood, baby. Out here, a dark-skinned woman’s traditional hair color is honey blonde.”) “Player” tells the story of Kaling being seduced and dumped by a female friend in L.A. (“I had been replaced by a younger model. And now they had matching bangs.”) In “Unlikely Leading Lady,” she muses on America’s fixation with the weight of actresses, (“Most women we see onscreen are either so thin that they’re walking clavicles or so huge that their only scenes involve them breaking furniture.”) And in “Soup Snakes,” Kaling spills some secrets on her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and close friend, B.J. Novak (“I will freely admit: my relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell.”) Mindy turns the anxieties, the glamour, and the celebrations of her second coming-of-age into a laugh-out-loud funny collection of essays that anyone who’s ever been at a turning point in their life or career can relate to. And those who’ve never been at a turning point can skip to the parts where she talks about meeting Bradley Cooper.

Multiple Sclerosis…Why Not Me? by Vincent Spoto Upon being formally diagnosed with MS in the summer of 2006, I immediately began interferon treatment. For approximately two years after being diagnosed, there were no visible symptoms. Then in fall 2008 I began to limp. As time went on, my gait became impacted & has since gotten slowly but progressively worse. I currently suffer from secondary progressive MS. Presently, I am fully ambulatory but do utilize a cane. In addition to my gait issues, my balance is off and I do get fatigued often. I am determined not to let MS get the best of me. After falling victim in 2007 to a Reduction in Workforce (RIF) associated with the collapse of the secondary mortgage market on Wall Street, I teamed up with two partners & formed an advisory / consulting business. Today, my business continues to thrive & do well. My determination to deal with my MS & be ready for the cure is founded in four main principals. These are: Remain Engaged in the Marketplace / Workforce. Remaining engaged in the workforce keeps me abreast of current marketplace events, allows me to maintain relationships, network with others & provides me with a sense of accomplishment necessary for overall well-being. Remain Physically and Socially Active. I find exercise to be critical in that it keeps me active. Admittedly, some days are more difficult than others, but I push myself to get out of the house & exercise. Additionally, meeting with & talking to others on a regular basis keeps me engaged and socially relevant. Remain Positive. Dwelling on the negative takes too much energy & only drives one to become depressed. While I am often times frustrated, I remain optimistic about the future & remain confident that a cure is forthcoming. Remain Knowledgeable. Having knowledge is having power; with respect to MS, this is essential. Today, progress towards a cure is being made at a rapid pace. It is critical to always ask questions, stay informed and do your homework
Why not me? Is the biblical study to challenge and encourage women to embrace the calling, gifts and anointing that is upon their life. As it is written,” before I formed you in the womb I knew and approved of you as my chosen instrument”... Jeremiah 1:5 (amp) For we are God’s own handiwork recreated in Christ Jesus that we may do those good works which God predestined for us....Ephesians 2:10(amp) In times past and present there has been the question of women in ministry. What about the message and the available leader being identified and trained to carry out the mission that has been set. The spirit of the Lord has been poured out upon all flesh. It is time to take the path which has been prepared.

This life story traces a major segment of Rolands adult life, an adult life riddled with devastating personal events. During the past thirty years, Roland has had ample opportunities to indulge in self-pity and to become extremely deft at it. In large part, this stems from the parade of very unique and scarring events that have beset his two sets of children and himself: (1) his having to singly raise his five children after his wife of seventeen years abandons him and their children for another man; (2) his having married a young lady, twenty-seven years his junior (Roland 52, his wife 25); (3) his having fathered two more sons, the youngest born when Roland was sixty years old, the other who was at deaths door at age four due to kidney cancer; (4) both he and his wife having been diagnosed with cancer within a five-week period, her with breast cancer, Roland with prostate cancer; (5) his wife dying at age forty-six and the associated emotional devastation experienced by their two young sons and himself; (6) and, for the second time in his life, the necessity of this now seventy-four-year-old parent having to singly raise his children. The support of Rolands family and friends and, especially, his Catholic faith gave him the courage and spirit to push through these incredible hardships.
Why Not Me? tells what most doctors don't share. Cases of kidney failure are skyrocketing worldwide, and rates of treatment for kidney failure are growing faster than the population. It costs Medicare more for medical treatment than prostate cancer and breast cancer combined, forcing many people to choose conservative management not to treat kidney failure with dialysis or a transplant. Why Not Me? empowers you to take an active role in your health care and explain why reducing your dependence on medications can improve your overall health. It also helps you how to read and understand your lab results if your doctor orders blood or urine test; everything on the lab test result is important even though doctors never cover all the results. What should you do when your health-care provider tells you not to worry about a medical problem that is slightly higher or lower than normal? Learn the understanding or how dishonesty with your care team could hurt you; it will shock you once you reveal that most of the information given by your health team are for treatment only; most instructions are wellness and are the opposite from preventative treatment. Why Not Me? is written with the authority of himself and with the help of the results of others who chose to take an active role in their health care and those that chose prevention. Why Not Me? is based on WallACE's compassion that come from his own experience and while answering questions that most don't know how to ask. You will learn what to ask doctors, how to choose the right medications and herbs, and how to enrich while maintaining a healthy life. In addition, you will learn personal responsibility and never ask, "Why me?" The sad reality is if you don't know or don't properly care for yourself, you will say, "Why not me!" No one can keep you healthy other than you!
At some point in your life, you may have experienced a medical scare, felt the death of a loved one or was forced to go through a life changing crisis. Did you wonder WHY? The dramatic rise and dizzying fall of Al Franken, the first Jewish president of the United States. From the first days of the Franken campaign as the candidate pledges 'to walk the state of New Hampshire, diagonally and then from side to side' as Al, aided by his covering sex addict and alcoholic deputy campaign manager, stuns the pundits by defeating Al Gore for the democratic nomination, then is swept into office carrying all fifty states. But from that moment of triumph it's downhill all the way...
Why Not Me by Joseph C. Aurelia Joseph C. Aurelia wrote Why Not Me: A Brave Journey with Cancer to share the story of the loss of his beloved wife, Camille. The book details her battle with cancer. Why Not Me shares information for people with cancer, caretakers, family members, and caring professionals alike. When a loved one is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Aurelia asks readers to support that person, be there, and always support their decisions. Protect them, advocate for them, love them, and yet prepare for their death. “Expressing and dealing with grief is paramount,” Aurelia says. Primarily, Aurelia’s experience taught him that the medical system needs to change the care of Stage 4 patients. His book shows the need to treat the person with cancer, and not just the cancer. But at heart, Why Not Me teaches readers to help their loved one recognize both physical and emotional pain, and to alleviate suffering as much as possible. Decision-making and critical thinking along this journey are a must – Why Not Me may help you and your loved ones in your journey with cancer.
Writing has taken over my life.. in a good way. My thoughts continually are geared towards my next song. Sometimes I get a few lines in my head when I am driving and I have to pull over the car and write them down! No matter where I am, I get the urge to write. I could be talking to a neighbor, or be in the middle of mass at church and a word or phrase will pop into my head and whoa! -a new song is born! More than anything I love, love, love, the peace of mind songwriting allows me to have. Most of my lyrics take me 15 to 30 minutes to write. There was a time when I was writing 6-8 lyrics in a day. Sometimes I would sit there and stare at my pencil asking why did you stop? I swear at times the pencil kept moving like I wasnt even thinking of what to write. This is my first edition. I hope to continue with future editions as I am still writing new songs everyday. Someday I hope to put my lyrics to my own music and I recently started taking piano lessons. Hey, we all know life is a learning process; a learning curve, we need to experience the turns with the ride! I wish you all success with this book and look forward to seeing some of you with me when it comes to award times!
It is likely that you have never considered the possibility of serving as pastor of a local church. The idea may even scare you. However, the best servant leaders are those that feel ill-equipped, unprepared, and even unworthy for such a role. This book is written to help you see a glimpse of the types of men God has graciously given such a significant responsibility. You will find them to simply be ordinary men who were willing to say ÒHere am I. Use me any way you desire to bring glory to yourself God.Ó These men, recognizing they are unworthy, lean on Jesus for everything they must do to fulfill such a calling. They do their Òbest to present themselves to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.Ó (2 Timothy 2:15) They are not perfect. They struggle trying to balance family, work, and ministry. But they find indescribable joy through serving God by ministering to GodÕs people and their local community.

"Why me God? Why not me? I noticed a swelling on my lower left leg on the calf muscle in late December 2009. There was no pain at all, so I dismissed it as a swelling from a hard fall I had taken in my basement about a month earlier. I showed it to Cindy who wanted me to go to the doctor's, but if you haven't noticed I am thick headed and wanted to see if it would just go away..it didn't. The doctor's visit and subsequent MRI in February began the process of identifying just what this thing was. Treatment could only begin after a positive ID. At this point I was not overly concerned. I still believed it to be a hematoma from the fall. It turned out to be much, much more." This is the first entry into a 2-year CaringBridge journal for my husband Bob who was 63 at the time and a very virile and active man. The hematoma turned out to be a rare and aggressive cancer that would take his life just 2 years later. The journal documents the tremendous faith and strength that he received from Christ every step of the way. The journal will carry you through the innermost thoughts of a man who knows that there is a possibility that he will not live through this, but turns to God and sees the joy of life in adversity. I rode the journey with him for 2 years and realized that through Jesus, Bob was able to not only live well but also to die well. His journal will put you front and center on his beautiful journey, something he called "an e-ticket ride with Christ." We were all blessed to be a part of his journey and I hope, that after reading this, you will feel blessed too. "He took my fear and turned it into wonder" "The mysteries of the ages will be mine soon. Are you jealous" "Open our eyes to the reality of the moments we live in."
