Coronary Pressure Book Description :

A little bit more than two years after the first edition, we are pleased to publish the second edition of this book. More than half of the chapters have been remodeled and completed as the result of technical improvements and recently acquired clinical data. During these two years, the number of coronary pressure measurements performed worldwide both during diagnostic and interventional procedures has increased almost exponentially. Most of the initial problems associated with this new approach have been overcome. Many colleagues have explored new research avenues and in many catheterization laboratories the method has matured from a research toy to a clinical tool. Classical indications such as the intermediate stenosis and guidance of PTCA or stent implantation, have been largely extended and coronary pressure measurement has proven to be useful in multi vessel disease, diffuse disease, long and serial stenosis, after myocardial infarction, and in many other diagnostic and interventional situations encountered in the catheterization laboratory. Quite unexpectedly, this approach has also enforced the ties with our surgical colleagues in the selection of patients suitable for minimal invasive surgery or hybride revascularization. Also in mild and intermediate left main disease, there is a role for coronary pressure measurement in the process of decision making. We would like to express our gratitude to all those many colleagues who trusted and applied this new approach for the benefit of their patients. Aalst, Eindhoven, Bernard De Bruyne. Nico H. J. Pijls. Home Blood Pressure Monitoring Book Description :

Hypertension remains a leading cause of disability and death worldwide. Self-monitoring of blood pressure by patients at home is currently recommended as a valuable tool for the diagnosis and management of hypertension. Unfortunately, in clinical practice, home blood pressure monitoring is often inadequately implemented, mostly due to the use of inaccurate devices and inappropriate methodologies. Thus, the potential of the method to improve the management of hypertension and cardiovascular disease prevention has not yet been exhausted. This volume presents the available evidence on home blood pressure monitoring, discusses its strengths and limitations, and presents strategies for its optimal implementation in clinical practice. Written by distinguished international experts, it offers a complete source of information and guide for practitioners and researchers dealing with the management of hypertension.

This Fast Facts will assist with improving outcomes for patients with pressure ulcers and strategies for decreasing pressure ulcer occurrence within a facility. Using the easy to read, quick-access Fast Facts style, the book presents guidelines for assessing, preventing, and treating pressure ulcers, for establishing an ulcer reduction program, and for increasing reimbursement. It includes tips for care in the Fast Facts in a Nutshell feature format. Pressure ulcers can be devastating not only for the patient but those caring for them. Sometimes with even the best of care, pressure ulcers occur, but what about those that can be prevented? The author, with the help of nursing staff at all levels, achieved pressure ulcers reduction in her facility by 54% over a one year period through implementation of an ulcer reduction program. This book will cover pressure ulcer risk assessment (important to include in the initial patient assessment), incidence, underlying causative factors, factors to eliminate when planning patient care, equipment that can help prevent 'pressure' on susceptible patient tissues, issues concerning dressings and treatments, benefits of creating a skin care team, how to document to insure higher reimbursement, and lastly, working with outpatients. Additionally, nurses studying for certification as a Wound, Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOCN) will find support material related to identifying, preventing, and resolving pressure ulcers that is difficult to access in other publications. Key Features of this Book in Bullet-Point Format Succinct Fast Facts Reference style provides easy access to important Pressure Ulcer Facts Includes the Fast Facts in a Nutshell tips that help guide nursing staff towards improving assessment, treatment, and documenting skills Provides care delivery parameters and documentation required for optimal Medicare & Medicaid reimbursement Delivers frequently-used guidelines for on assessing, measuring, and grading pressure ulcers, and

Some Limitations on the Use of Damping in Short Pressure Points Book Description :

The analytical study described in this report examines changes in the useful frequency response of short pressure probes resulting from variations in the viscous damping within the probe tube. The study is based on the use of the Bergh and Tijdeman recursion formula, which was modified to allow the addition of arbitrary amounts of viscous loss in any tube section. Results show that the useful response range can be increased with damping but is dependent on the operating temperature and pressure levels. At 300 K, only a 15-percent variation in average pressure is allowable if the useful response is to be a factor of three higher than that of an undamped probe. This variation increases to 20 or 30 percent at temperatures above 600 K. A computer program based on the modified recursion formula is given in an appendix.

Charts of Pressure Rise Obtainable with Airfoil type Axial flow Cooling Fans Book Description :

Charts are presented to show the pressure rise that is obtainable in an engine-cooling installation with a typical airfoil-type propeller-speed fan. The charts cover fans of the stator-rotor, rotor-stator, and rotor alone configurations, with blades incorporating both the highly cambered 65-series blower-blade sections and the conventional low-cambered airfoil sections. The effects of operation of a geared fan with rotational speeds limited by compressibility considerations and the effects of initial rotational inflow are indicated. Use of the charts to predict the pressure rise obtainable with any fan of the types considered is illustrated in a sample calculation.

High Pressure Science and Technology Book Description :

High pressure has become a basic variable in many areas of science and engineering. It extends from disciplines of geophysics and astrophysics through chemistry and physics to those of modern biology, electrical and chemical engineering. This breadth has been recognized for some time, but it was not until the early 1960's that an international group of scientists and engineers established the Association Internationale for Research and Advancement of High Pressure Science and Technology (AIRAPT) for bringing these various aspects of high pressure together at an international conference. The First AIRAPT International High Pressure Conference was held in 1965 in France and has been convened at approximately two to three year intervals since that time. The past four AIRAPT International High Pressure Conferences have been held in Germany, Scotland, Japan and the U.S.S.R. Since the first meeting of this kind, our understanding of high pressure behavior of physical systems has increased greatly.
