Portal hypertension is a relatively common condition, the complications of which are frequently life threatening. Patients with portal hypertension represent an important por tion of the daily clinical work of abdominal radiologists, gastroenterologists and abdominal surgeons. During the past two decades the development of new radiological devices and of new percutaneous image-guided treatment methods has resulted in fundamental changes in the clinical management of patients with portal hypertension. During the same period tremen dous progress was achieved in the visualization of the numerous morphological and func tional changes observed in patients with portal hypertension, due to the clinical introduc tion of the new cross-sectional imaging methods: ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. I am very grateful to Prof. Plinio Rossi, an internationally recognized leader in the field of interventional radiology, for accepting the challenging task of compiling and presenting in a structured way the numerous facts and data that have become available during the past few years in this rapidly developing field. The editor has been inspired and successful in his selection of the impressive group of international experts that has contributed to many chapters of this volume.
Recent advances have carried hepatology to new frontiers. The increasing frequency with which steatotic and cirrhotic livers undergo surgery obliges liver surgeons and hepatologists to understand the molecular mechanisms at play in these situations. Comprehension of the signaling pathways participating in liver regeneration, hepatocellular apoptosis and ischemia/reperfusion injury is essential. This book serves as a source of information to facilitate the reading of the literature and the planning of trials. Translational medicine implies knowledge of the molecular targets of novel therapeutic strategies. It is our goal to stimulate more research that can lead to more exchanges between the laboratory, the clinical ward and the operating room.
In AD 60 the Roman Empire occupies Britannia, destroying its ancient culture. Under the leadership of Boudicca, the Iceni rise up against Nero’s forces but it is a losing battle. Yet the Druids are masters of nature, and in a final desperate strategy to avoid slavery, the priests summon their greatest magic to open a portal into an alternative world. One last Celtic tribe, the Ordoveteii, race to cross the threshold…
Reiculf, the ruler of Demonspawn, lusts for chaos and destruction, and finally breaks free of ancient barriers to spread fire, pestilence, and death throughout Uton. Manipulations of magic allow the beast to force his energy into unwilling hosts, and the demon lord moves cunningly to overcome any obstacle which confines his ability to generate pain and destruction. Ryson Acumen struggles to comprehend the workings of demon magic as the delver joins with both friends and adversaries to battle the encroaching evil. The elves of Dark Spruce Forest face the initial brunt of Reiculf's fury, but the demon master quickly turns his rage upon the human towns of Burbon and Connel. Ryson and his allies fight against every imaginable horror as the full wrath of wickedness is unleashed against their homeland. The path to a final conflict is lined with both misfortune and treachery, but a beacon of hope arrives in Uton to guide the delver to a greater understanding of his own existence. As he unveils the darker secrets of his foe, Ryson must look beyond the shadows of evil to find a way to defeat Reiculf and save his family and friends.
Signaling Pathways in Liver Diseases, 2nd edition focuses on signaling pathways which are particularly important in liver diseases. Recent progress brought hepatology to new frontiers. The increasing frequency of surgery on steatotic and cirrhotic liver obliges liver surgeons and hepatologists to understand the molecular mechanisms at play in these situations and how they can be influenced. Better comprehension of the cellular mechanisms participating in liver regeneration, hepato-cellular apoptosis and ischemia/reperfusion inquiry is mirrored by a dramatic increase in complexity. The number and scope of publications is intimidating and difficult for busy individuals to extract a coherent framework. This book will serve as a source of information facilitating the reading of the literature and the planning of trials. Translational medicine implies knowledge of the molecular targets for novel therapeutic strategies. It will furthermore stimulate more research and lead to better exchange between the laboratory, the clinical ward and the operation room.

The human world and the Otherworld have always been intrinsically connected just as the beings within them are, but these connections have been strained in the Western world over the last millenia. Cultural and religious shifts have pushed the Other to the fringes and centred humanity in the world and in many spiritual frameworks. As we move into the 21st century the Othercrowd is pushing back, seeking a return to their place in things. Many witches are feeling this shift. Living Fairy is a look at ways to deepen your practice of fairy witchcraft by actively calling the Good Neighbours back, and connecting to them more experientially. It emphasizes older ways of relating to them within a modern framework, while acknowledging the good and the bad that comes with this work. There is also an emphasis on moving away from solar and lunar holy days into a system focused on the stars, which may perhaps be an older way to relate to both the fairies and our spirituality.
After boarding an alien spacecraft and trying to find a safer world to live on, refugees reach the planet Noqa.

This work presents the most advanced discoveries from translational research laboratories directly involved in identifying molecules and signalling pathways that play an instrumental role in metastasis. In contrast to other works, conventionally focused on a single type of tumour, the various chapters in this book provide a broad perspective of the similarities and discrepancies among the dissemination of several solid malignancies. Through recurrent and overlapping references to molecular mechanisms and mediators, the readers will gain knowledge of the common ground in metastasis from a single source. Finally, an introductory chapter provides a clinical perspective of the problems presented by metastatic tumours for diagnosis and treatment. The work presented here is directed to researchers in tumour biology with a developing interest in metastatic dissemination as well as medical and graduate students seeking to expand and integrate the notions acquired in basic cancer biology and oncology courses.
