These days the terms good and God seem synonymous. We believe what’s generally accepted as good must be in line with God’s will. Generosity, humility, justice—good. Selfishness, arrogance, cruelty—evil. The distinction seems pretty straightforward. But is that all there is to it? If good is so obvious, why does the Bible say that we need discernment to recognize it? Good or God? isn’t another self-help message. This book will do more than ask you to change your behavior. It will empower you to engage with God on a level that will change every aspect of your life.

A timeless story inspired by the Book of Job and illustrated by the legendary Tomie dePaola--now reissued as a board book Originally published in 1987 and now available as a board book for the first time, God Is Great, God Is Good showcases Tomie dePaola's unmistakable illustration style against this poetic text based on passages from the Bible's Book of Job.
It's hard to say that God is good when God isn't always what we expect good to be. A good father wouldn't make it so difficult to get to know him, would he? And if God is all-powerful, wouldn't he ensure that we never suffered? Either our understanding of God is incorrect, or our definition of good is inadequate. In a world that is messy and a church that is imperfect, it's easy to let our faith be lost. But that doesn't mean we have to lose God. It means we must consider the fact that perhaps our idealized expectations are just plain wrong. With transparency about his own struggles with cynicism and doubt, pastor Luke Norsworthy helps frustrated Christians and skeptics trade their confinement of God in an anemic definition of good for confidence in the God who is present in everything, including our suffering.
The encouragement we crave—when we’re most in need Out of the deepest hurts of the human condition, Randy Alcorn brings into clear focus our most pressing questions about evil and suffering—including those that wrench our souls when we or someone we love is victimized by evil or assaulted by disease. He faces these questions with seasoned sensitivity, skillful insight, and a heart of compassion. He dodges none of the difficulties, and never lapses into platitudes, hand-wringing, or oversimplification. On this troubling but inescapable topic, you’ll find frank acknowledgment of the inherent limitations that set humanity apart from the God who has none. There’s also generous, real encouragement that brings God nearer in our understanding when we need His comfort the most. And amid our heavy doubts and swirling confusion on this topic, Randy Alcorn points us ultimately toward Jesus as “the only answer bigger than the questions.”

Most believers dont have a clue as to how to answer that question or its companion inquiry What on Earth am I supposed to be doing? This uplifting book taps the ultimate resource of the Word of God to provide compelling answers to these questions...and more. With a unique blend of lively narrative, entertaining stories and theological discussions, the author challenges and inspires readers to fulfill their true purpose, to MAKE GOD LOOK GOOD.

How could a hard-hearted killer and Jesus-hater become the greatest-ever advocate for Christianity? Only because of the completeness of the transforming work of Christ. That man, who became known as the apostle Paul, later wrote to the Christians in Rome, thoroughly explaining the unique greatness and power of God’s good news. Everyone is dead toward God because of sin and stands condemned, but anyone may gain right standing with Him through Jesus Christ. This rightness can come only by believing—by faith. Nothing can earn, buy, or be exchanged for it. And it brings new life and inner change. This easy-to-use study of the first eight chapters of Romans offers open-ended discussion questions, Bible passages, and helpful explanations and applications to help you, or you and your group, grasp the wonder and transforming power of God’s work in your life.

Deep within every human heart lies a created hunger for the heavenly mountains of God's presence. The lungs of our soul ache to breathe the air of eternity. We thirst for waters that stream forth from divine springs. A divine restlessness exists within the innermost chambers of our soul, stirring us to seek an intimate knowing of God as our Father. Jesus said that His deepest desire was that we might know His Father as He did! He was born to show us the Father...and died that we might come to know Him personally. Jesus seeks to introduce us to a life lived with the Father-a life of ongoing, moment-by moment intimacy on all levels of humanness- mind, heart, soul, and will.

Even after we are saved and have been Christians for a long time, our picture of God may be warped, incomplete or inaccurate. We may not have the true picture of God. Based on our past experiences, we tend to retain many of our biases, misconceptions and wrong notions of who God is, what He does and how He works. Sometimes even what we may have heard in religious places, read in religious books could have misrepresented God to us and may have resulted in us having a wrong and inaccurate picture of God. We may even think we are right, but really our picture of God may be incorrect.
Is the God of the Bible the most unpleasant character in all fiction, as Richard Dawkins claims in The God Delusion? He is backed up by former preacher and now virulent atheist, Dan Barker, who has cited Scripture, seeking to justify every one of Dawkins's infamous character slurs about the God of the Old Testament. Dawkins says the biblical God is "jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." Barker has added eight accusations of his own. Dawkins was too kind, he says. The God of the Bible is also "a pyromaniacal, angry, merciless, curse hurling, vaccicidal, aborticidal, cannibalistic slavemonger." Furthermore, Barker thoroughly implicates Jesus in the alleged crimes of his Father. God is Good seeks to answer every one of these twenty-seven accusations. Written for theological students, pastors, preachers, thoughtful laypeople who wince at some of what they read in the Bible, and those atheists who are honestly searching for truth, this book ducks none of the difficult questions and problematic passages.

Written in an accessible style by eminent scholars, this book will appeal to students and academics alike.
