When the image of a man-eating beast travels through the optic nerve and into the visual cortex, the brain sends the body a simple but urgent message: run away! That’s what normal people do, but not lion chasers. Rather than seeing a five-hundred-pound problem, they see an opportunity for God to show up and show His power. Chase the Lion is more than a catch phrase; it’s a radically different approach to life. It’s only when we stop fearing failure that we can fully seize opportunity by the mane. With grit and gusto, New York Times best-selling author Mark Batterson delivers a bold message to everyone with a big dream. This is a wake-up call to stop living as if the purpose of life was to simply arrive safely at death. Our dreams should scare us. They should be so big that without God they would be impossible to achieve. Quit running away from what you’re afraid of. Chase the lion! Change the world! What is your five-hundred-pound dream? In this highly anticipated sequel to his best-selling In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day, Mark Batterson invites lion chasers everywhere to chase dreams so impossible that victory demands we face our fears, defy the odds, and hold tight to God. These are the kind of dreams that will make you a bigger person and the world a better place. Based upon 2 Samuel 23, Chase the Lion tells the true story of an ancient warrior named Benaiah who chased a lion into a pit on a snowy day—and then killed it. For most people, that situation wouldn’t just be a problem…it would be the last problem they ever faced. For Benaiah, it was an opportunity to step into his destiny. After defeating the lion, he landed his dream job as King David’s bodyguard and eventually became commander-in-chief of Israel’s army under King Solomon. Written in a way that both challenges and encourages, this revolutionary book will help unleash the faith and courage you need t

Chase the Lion: Stepping Confidently Into the Unknown is a 6-session young adult Bible study inspired by a fearless warrior named Benaiah (2 Sam. 23:20) who changed the course of his future by winning a battle with a real lion. This study examines biblical and modern-day examples of people who were willing to take risks, seize opportunities, and face fears when it comes to chasing after God-given opportunities.
Your greatest regret at the end of your life will be the lions you didn't chase. You will look back longingly on risks not taken, opportunities not seized, and dreams not pursued. Stop running away from what scares you most and start chasing the God-ordained opportunities that cross your path. In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day is inspired by one of the most obscure yet courageous acts recorded in Scripture, a blessed and audacious act that left no regrets: “Benaiah chased a lion down into a pit. Then, despite the snow and slippery ground, he caught the lion and killed it” (2 Samuel 23:20 -21). Unleash the lion chaser within! What if the life you really want, and the future God wants for you, is hiding right now in your biggest problem, your worst failure…your greatest fear? Story Behind the Book “Our best days often start out as our worst days. And our greatest opportunities are often disguised as our biggest problems. You can land in a pit with a lion on a snowy day, and it will seem like the end of the road. But God is in the recycling business. He recycles past experiences and uses them to prepare us for future opportunities. That is the story of my life. And that is the story of your life. Look in the rearview mirror long enough and you’ll see that God has purposely positioned you everywhere you’ve been—even when it seemed you’d taken a wrong turn.” —Mark Batterson
Chase the Lion: Stepping Confidently Into the Unknown is a six-session young adult Bible study that expands the message of Mark Batterson's best-selling book In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day. Inspired by a fearless warrior named Benaiah (2 Sam. 23:20) who changed the course of his future by winning a battle with a real lion, this study examines biblical and modern-day examples of people who were willing to put everything on the line, take risks, seize opportunities, face fears, embrace uncertainty, and look foolish when it comes to chasing after God-given opportunities. Our current Christian culture doesn't usually encourage sensible people to chase after risky opportunities and dreams. We want to believe that if it's a good decision, it will always be and feel safe because that's the way God wants life to be. But what if you discovered that the fulfilling life God wants for you is hiding behind a present problem, a past failure, or a lifelong fear? Unsure about where to start? Most of us have no idea where we’re going most of the time. Perfect. “Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or ‘the Wild Goose.’ The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. And while the name may sound a little sacrilegious, I cannot think of a better description of what it’s like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something…. Most of us will have no idea where we are going most of the time. And I know that is unsettling. But circumstantial uncertainty also goes by another name: Adventure.” --from the introduction

Turcology in Mainz has been pursued as general and comparative Turcology. The 49 contributions to this conference reflect this interest and include titles on the history and linguistic structure of both Turkish and other Turkic languages. The main focus of the volume is on Turkish linguistic issues. A number of studies indifferent modern linguistic frameworks deal with Turkish morphological structures, communicative functions and referentiality, the function and syntax of converbs, thecategory of voice. Discussions on the structures of relative clauses constitute an important part of the volume. Other fields of studies represented include language acquisition, dialect studies, language policy, contact linguistics, computer linguistics, stylistics and applied linguistics. The volume will be invaluable to students and researchers within the fields of Turcology, linguistics, linguistic typology, contact linguistics, Near Eastern and Oriental Studies.
The title of this book isn't a trick question; and the answer you thought of is probably the correct one. The answer, though, explains why it is nearly half a century since a human being set foot on the moon; why Concorde no longer flies across the Atlantic; why the western world is experiencing a "retail apocalypse;" why Britain voted to leave the European Union; why Donald Trump became President of the USA in 2016; and why things are likely to get a lot worse before they get better. The remorseless decline in relative living standards for the majority of people in the western states since 1973 has baffled economists and politicians (of the equally clueless Red and Blue teams). Today they talk about a "productivity puzzle," despite being unable to properly explain what productivity is. In the same way, they talk about economic growth being our salvation despite not knowing how economic growth occurs. In Why Don't Lions Chase Mice, economic and social scientist Tim Watkins explains that without a theory of energy and with a poor and erroneous theory of money, the "experts" and politicians charged with leading us out of the gathering crises - banking and financial collapse, unemployment, under-employment and depression, energy shortages, resource depletion, environmental destruction and climate change - are leading us down a blind alley. Only when we understand the essential role of energy in the economy can we properly understand the stark choices before us. In Why Don't Lions Chase Mice, Tim Watkins explains why neither of the proposed futures on offer - business as usual versus a "green new deal" - is possible. Business as usual fails because Planet Earth cannot withstand the destruction caused by burning even more fossil fuels. Less obviously, though, business as usual fails because we no longer have access to sufficient fossil fuels to carry on as we have been. The alternative of a green new deal, while well-meaning, is not grounded in reality. As Watkins shows,
Save Me From the Lion's Mouth investigates the increasing conflict between people and wildlife in Africa and what needs to be done about it. It describes the human suffering and perceptions of those who live outside the reserve fences among man-eaters and marauders yet are excluded from the economic benefits accruing from the wildlife around them. It provides evidence of a growing resentment among rural communities, especially near game reserves and warns how it is threatening the existence of Africa’s game reserves. The book suggests that many in the Northern Hemisphere who support African wildlife conservation are blind to the seriousness of the situation. Some African states – notably Kenya and Tanzania – adopt wildlife policies to please donor countries from whom they receive millions of dollars. Thus government policies, many of them patently disastrous and certainly detrimental to rural Africans and to wildlife, are dictated from middle class homes across Europe and America. Fortunately there is a growing international lobby that is seeking solutions.
